Dogs are happiest when they are in a warm home with a loving family as their whole world revolves around their favorite person or people.
Unfortunately, not all of them are so lucky to live such a blessed life. In fact, there are more dogs who are forced to be in dark and cold kennels as the shelter capacity continues to decrease.
Many dogs have never even had the chance to live somewhere outside of a shelter, but it is perhaps even more heartbreaking to see those who suddenly lost their warm home.
This is exactly what happened to one poor dog when her family surrendered her at a rescue center in Pasadena, California. Her reaction was so sad.
Broken Heart
After a happy life in a warm home, Tokyo, a three-year-old Pit Bull mix, suddenly found herself in a rescue center.
Her owners got divorced and neither of them could keep her, so they agreed to surrender her to Pup Culture Rescue.
According to the rescue organization, it was the right thing to do, but… “In a world where many people surrender their pets to shelters or dump them on the streets.” It was still one of the saddest moments ever.
“Our rescue partner, Maria, said that it was the saddest handoff she has ever witnessed – and she has seen hundreds of surrenders,” the rescue wrote in the caption of the Instagram video that shows Maria and Tokyo in each other’s arms.
In the video, we can see the absolute sadness and broken heart in this dog’s eyes when she realizes she will never see her family again.
However, what touched this woman the most was the fact that Tokyo did not separate from her for days, seeking comfort in her arms and crying bitterly when she was gone.
That’s how devastated her heart was.
Happiest Update
It took a long time for all the wounds on Tokyo’s soul to heal, but with the immense love of Maria and the other good people from the rescue organization, she was on the right path.
“She is definitely still grieving her old family, but we’ve noticed her start to open up at our space. She is great with all the dogs, especially the young puppies who she has been very nurturing toward.” the rescue organization wrote.
This video about Tokyo’s sad fate and a heartwarming hug with Maria attracted a lot of attention, and thus, encouraged many people to apply for adoption.
Although many good souls were interested in Tokyo, they could not find her the right match until the happiest update came three months later.
“Tokyo has been adopted for two weeks and is living her best life!!!!” the rescue organization wrote in their new Instagram post. “When Jamie’s application came in, we knew the match was meant to be!”
They also added that she now lives in Las Vegas, Nevada with her new owner, who certainly won’t betray her like the others did.
