Chance the dog is used to his grandpa spoiling him — and now his mom knows exactly how much.

Meghan Specksgoor of Midlothian, Virginia, has often let her dad watch the shepherd mix she adopted two years ago. But when she dropped 4-year-old Chance off to stay with his grandpa last weekend, he made sure to show off how much fun they were having without her — and even seemed to have learned how to text.

Together the two went on an array of adventures, and with each new place he traveled, Chance sent a message and picture to his mom in case she somehow forgot about his adorable smile. (Not possible.)

One day Grandpa brought Chance to the nail salon, then to the park for a picnic, and then to the ice cream shop for a pupsicle.

Later on, they were hungry again and wanted to see what their best options were for takeout.

Even though they don’t live too far from Grandpa’s, Chance also wanted to let his mom know they should really start going over to his house more.

The night before his mom returned from New York City, Chance snuggled up in his grandpa’s bed as a cozy end to the fun visit. He made sure to tell his mom good night — complete with heart emojis.

The play-by-play updates didn’t come as a surprise to Specksgoor, who has been getting subtle hints about having human kids for a while now.

“I couldn’t stop laughing at the texts,” she told The Dodo. “He’s been begging me for a grandchild and I always respond that he will only get grandpups from me because I don’t want children right now. So this is how he jokes about not getting grandbabies.”

Although there aren’t any human grandkids in the picture, it’s clear that Chance doesn’t know the difference — and neither does Specksgoor.

“As funny as it was, it is also super comforting to know that my baby is being taken care of so well,” Specksgoor added. “He is literally my entire world.”

Luckily for Chance, it’s not just his mom who feels that way about him.

“My dad lets him do whatever he wants and he gets so many snacks and treats when he’s there,” Specksgoor said. “Just like a real grandchild.”
